Holiday Gifts for Kids Who Love to Read

It's the holiday season, and for many families, it's a time when cherished family traditions--like curling up for a bedtime story or reading quietly together on a snowy morning--feel all the more special. It's also the time of year when many of us mark the season by giving gifts to the loved ones in our lives. Some people might be delighted by a new gadget, but if you have a reader in your life, you know there's nothing they'd love more than a great book.

In this post, we'll share some books that are perfect for kids of all ages.

Picture Books (Ages 0-7)

For a reader who can't wait to play in the snow

Snow by Uri Shulevitz is a classic for a reason. This Caldecott Medal-winning picture book brings a snowy day to life in such vivid detail that it's lived in the hearts of its young readers (many of whom aren't so young anymore!) since 1998. Snow depicts a boy and a dog whose vivid imagination and youthful spirit allow them to enjoy a snowy day like no one else in the city can.

Middle Grade Books (Ages 8-12)

For a reader who stands out from the crowd

Other Boys by Damian Alexander is a heart-filled graphic memoir about grief, bullying, and coming out. After losing his parents and transferring to a new school, Damian starts seventh grade determined to avoid bullies at all costs--by not speaking a word on school grounds. But staying silent doesn't keep him from standing out. As Damian struggles with his grades, therapy, and making friends at an age when girls are reluctant to spend time with boys and Damian has less in common with other boys than ever, he comes to understand himself better and face his fears of rejection.
