6 Natural Remedies for Pink Eye

Make a Saline Wash

One of the first home remedies for pink eye you should try is a saline eyewash. Mix together one cup of distilled water and a half teaspoon of salt in a saucepan and boil for five minutes. Allow to cool. Then use an eyedropper or eyecup to wash out the affected eye. Repeat several times a day, being sure to sterilize the eyedropper or eyecup after each use.

Cilantro Pink Eye Cure

Cilantro is a classic pink eye remedy in Ayurvedic medicine. Blend a handful of cilantro with just enough water to get the blender going until you have a fine puree. Strain out the liquid and place the pureed cilantro on your closed eyelids for a few minutes, then wipe it away for relief.

Help Pink Eye Itch

Mix together a teaspoon of baby shampoo with a quarter cup of warm water. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and wipe it across your eyelids. The baby shampoo will cleanse the lid without causing irritation, and the warm water will feel great. Make sure to use a clean cotton ball for each swipe to avoid spreading the infection, and wash your hands thoroughly afterward.

Chamomile for Conjunctivitis

Chamomile is an old-fashioned remedy for pink eye. Soak a chamomile tea bag in warm water, and then hold it as a compress on the affected eye for up to 10 minutes. You can repeat several times a day to help fight off the infection.

Honey Eye Rinse

Harness honey’s antibacterial qualities with this eye wash. In a small saucepan, mix together four teaspoons of honey with one cup of milk or water, and boil for several minutes. Allow to cool completely. Use this mixture to wash out the affected eye several times a day until you start to feel better. Store any leftovers in the refrigerator between uses.

Potatoes for Pink Eye

To dry out the discharge associated with pink eye, use some grated potato! Grate some raw potato onto a cheesecloth, tie it up, and place it on the eyelid of the affected eye. The potato has astringent and disinfecting qualities that will help soothe the itch and irritation.
