How to Remove Gum from Almost Anywhere

HowtoRemoveGum

Methyl Salicyclate

The best way to get gum out of carpet, clothes, or hair is with a chemical called methyl salicyclate, which you can find in analgesic heat rubs, like Bengay. Put it on the gum, then apply heat with your hair dryer set on low. Press a plastic sandwich bag on the gum and it should pull away easily. Make sure to wash the area after you’ve removed the gum.

Duct Tape

Here’s another great reason to keep duct tape around the house: It can get rid of gum! To remove gum from upholstery, wrap a piece of duct tape around your fingers, with the sticky side facing out. Then, with a quick motion, press onto the gum and lift. Repeat until all of the gum is gone.

Egg Whites

Here’s another way to get gum out of fabric or upholstery. Beat an egg white, rub or brush into the gum and let sit for up to a half an hour, then wipe off. The egg white breaks down the gum and makes it easy to remove.
