How to Dust Hard-to-Reach Places

How to Dust Hard-to-Reach Places

DIY Duster

Wrap a paper towel around the broad end of a kitchen spatula and secure with a rubber band. Use this to reach dust trapped between tubes of a radiator. Spray the paper towel with all-purpose cleaner to get rid of sticky spills and stains.

Radiators

Dreading cleaning your radiator? Here’s a simple way to get the job done. Hang a damp cloth or damp newspapers on the wall behind it, then use your hair dryer to blow the dust off it. The dust will stick to the wet surface behind it, and then you can simply throw away the cloth or paper.

Ceilings

Untangle a wire hanger, and use a rubber band to secure an old, clean sock to the end. Your arms just grew by 3 feet! Alternatively, add some reach to your vacuum’s hose by attaching a paper towel tube. Another solution is to cover the head of your mop or broom with a pillowcase dampened with water, vinegar, or your preferred cleaning solution, then secure it with a rubber band and go to it.

Blinds

Dusting the blinds is always a pain, so after you’re done make sure you won’t have to do it for a while: Spray Static Guard (usually used for clothing) onto your blinds to repel dust!

Behind Appliances

Unless your arms are 6 feet long, dusting behind radiators or under appliances can be a real drag. Try making a dusting tool by slipping a heavy-duty sock on a yardstick and securing it with a rubber band. Spray it lightly with dusting spray (we like water and a little bit of fabric softener) and you’re ready to finally grab all that dust you’ve been avoiding.

Cracks

When dusting isn’t doing the job as thoroughly as you’d like, use dental floss to clean the narrow spaces around the house. Swipe a strand between the keys in your computer keyboard and to scrape the crud from cracks in your kitchen table.
