The Guide to a Perfect Valentine's Day Meal

Our guest today is Justin Warner, author of The Laws of Cooking...and How to Break Them. He’s come to visit us on the podcast before to talk about dorm room cooking hacks and Halloween candy, and we invited him back today to share some fun and unorthodox suggestions for celebrating Valentine’s Day in the kitchen.

Justin and I agree that Valentine's Day is one of the worst nights to spend at a restaurant: like New Year’s Eve, it turns into this overpriced, high-pressure, fixed menu experience that nobody wants. In other words, amateur hour. On the podcast, Justin gives us plenty of reasons to stay home instead, from slow-cooker braised beef heart to chocolate cake.

And, he shares ideas for interactive meals like shabu-shabu, Japanese hotpot, from his recent trip to Japan.

Check out some recipes from The Laws of Cooking...and How to Break Them on Cookstr.com:

Burrata with Trout Caviar, Passion Fruit, Vanilla, and Dates

Octopus Tiradito

Cornish Hen Meets Frisée aux Lardons

Dry-Aged Rib Eye au Poivre

Smoked Cannoli
