Easy, Natural Ways Get Rid of Aphids on Your Plants

Potato Water for Aphids

Making sweet potatoes for dinner? Save the water you boil them in and put it into a spray bottle. Spray the liquid wherever you see ants or aphids on your houseplants, and they’ll become a thing of the past.

Amazing Aphid Trap

If aphids are infesting your plants, here’s an easy solution. Cover a tennis ball with petroleum jelly and leave it nearby. The bugs will be attracted to its bright color, and then get stuck on its side. Gross/cool! Then you can wash the ball (and kill the aphids) with the garden hose and start all over again.

Lemon Solution

Save your plants from aphids with this simple formula: Boil 1 pint of water and add 1 lemon’s worth of  zest. Let steep overnight. In the morning, strain the rind if desired. Pour liquid into a spray bottle and spray it on your plants. Soon, aphids will be a thing of the past.

DIY Essential Oil Spray

Aphids eating up your plants? Pour ¼ teaspoon eucalyptus oil, ½ teaspoon dishwashing liquid, ½ teaspoon corn oil, and 2 quarts water in a spray bottle and shake well to combine. Spray the mixture on your plants to kill aphids fast.

Onions for Aphids

Are aphids invading your garden? Here’s another easy, organic way to keep them out. Chop up an onion, place it in a cup of water, and puree it until it’s liquid. Pour the concoction into a plastic spray bottle and use it to mist the plants aphids are attracted to. (For best results, try it at dawn before the sun starts blazing.) Aphids hate the smell as much as we do.

What to Plant to Repel Aphids

Want to repel aphids before they start? Just plant mint and nasturtiums, which will aphids hate. These plants also repel whiteflies.
