Whether you're trying to save money or be more eco-concious, these simple solutions are guaranteed to leave you and your pet feeling good.
Best Behavior
1. Keep Pets in Their Bed, Not Yours
If you’d rather your pets not climb on top of you while you sleep, try this tip. Throw an old sweatshirt or sweatpants of yours into the dryer for 5 to 10 minutes on high, then wrap it around your pet’s bed. You’ll create a warm space with the scent of you that will help your pet settle.

2. Water on the Go
Out for a walk in hot weather? Bring a plastic shower cap with you. When you fill it with water, it will expand enough that you can hold it out as a bowl. An empty, clean pancake-syrup bottle can also make a great portable, squirtable water bottle. Use a carabiner to attach its handle to a belt loop or backpack for a long hike.
3. Teething Relief
If your dog is teething, you can create a cheap chew toy by soaking an old washcloth in water, twisting it into a fun shape, and leaving it in the freezer. Give it to your pup fully frozen, and when it thaws out, simply repeat the process. Be careful with tiny dogs, though, as they can get too cold if they chew on frozen toys too often. Frozen green beans are also soothing for pups.
4. Eating Too Fast?
Place a ball in the middle of your dog’s food bowl, so your pooch has to work around it and slow down.

5. Try Lemon Aid
Cut a lemon into quarters, cover with boiling water, add one or two sprigs of rosemary and sage, and let steep overnight. Transfer the strained mixture to a spray bottle and apply to your pet, avoiding her eyes. Target behind her ears, around the base of her tail, and under her legs. Pet not letting you spray? Rub the juice from a freshly squeezed lemon or orange on your dog or cat’s fur.
6. Treat to a Massage
Rub coconut oil in your hands, then massage it onto your pet, down to the skin. Next, run a flea comb through the fur. The little buggers will stick to the comb and pull away. (Some may rush to jump off your pet, so it’s best to try this trick outside!) Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which acts as a repellent to fleas (and ticks too). Plus, it’s soothing and moisturizing for your pet’s coat—and smells amazing! And it’s completely safe if he tries to lick it. Massage it in once a week to keep fleas away.
Keep It Clean
7. Magic Pet Hair Remover
Don’t have the heart to banish your pet from the couch? Here’s a solution for easily removing all that hair. Mix 1 part liquid fabric softener with 2 parts water in a spray bottle. Then spritz your furniture before vacuuming. The hairs will adhere to the softener, making them much easier to remove. As an added benefit, the room will smell fresh and clean! Don’t have fabric softener on hand? Spray hairspray on a clean towel, then use the towel to lift off pet hair from your furniture and clothing.
