Watch What You Eat...
Some foods, particularly spicy, fatty, or fried foods; chocolate; caffeine; and alcohol, are more likely to cause belching. That’s because they weaken the valve between your esophagus and your stomach. By minimizing your consumption of these foods, you should be able get your burps under control.
...And How You Eat It
Eat slowly and with your mouth closed. If you’re eating quickly or talking throughout dinner, you’re swallowing air, which will cause burping. If you take your time, you’ll feel much better, plus you’ll be less likely to overeat.
Soothe Your Stomach with Ginger
Ginger tea can help relieve those burps. Grate about a teaspoon or so of fresh ginger into a mug and cover with hot water. Let it steep for five minutes, then strain and drink. If you don’t have fresh ginger on hand, you can use ginger tea bags. Chamomile tea is also known to reduce belching.
Pineapple Power
If you’re prone to burping, try drinking pineapple juice with your meals. Pineapple contains a chemical called bromelain, which promotes healthy digestion and reduces burping.
Chew on This
To settle your stomach, chew on a few fennel or celery seeds after a meal. They contain a substance that can help eliminate excess air from the digestive tract. Fennel seeds also do double-duty as a breath freshener.
A Lot to Swallow
Avoid drinking beverages from a straw. It causes you swallow excess air, which produces burping.
Skip the Spanx
Too-tight clothes can cause belching! The pressure on your mid-section forces out excess air, so leave the shapewear and tight-fitting skirt at home, and you’ll have fewer awkward emissions.
Colds Can Cause Burping
You’ve got a bad cold, and for some mysterious reason you can’t stop burping. What’s going on? Congestion causes some people to swallow a lot of excess air, which causes the burping. A simple decongestant can often relieve the both nasal symptoms and, by extension, the belching.
